In 1842 James Holdaway arrived in Nelson and by 1853 at only 17 years of age he was working in Marlborough. One of his many jobs was driving a bullock dray carrying wool from the Awatere Valley to the Wairau Bar. In 1864 he purchased land in Dillons Point on the lower Wairau plains which he named Lowlands. Now his descendants grow Sauvignon Blanc grapes on this land.

Winemakers notes
This wine has a layers of appealing flavours, with lifted citrus aromas of ripe lime and grapefruit, fresh thyme and bell pepper, with mineral notes of wet stone, and a touch of passionfruit.

The palate has a refreshing but elegant acidity, with full palate from appealing fruit weight.  This wine has a rich mineral saltiness that leads through to a pleasant and lingering finish.

Lowlands Sauvignon Blanc 2017

It is intensely aromatic on the nose showing passionfruit, feijoa, lime zest and sweet basil aromas, followed by a delectably expressed palate that is filled with youthful fruit flavours. The wine is bright and fresh, and offers excellent drinking. At its best: now to 2019.

If you are interested in wine or grape supply we would be happy to talk with you.

For a number of years we have used some of our grapes to make wine for the bulk wine market. If you have a requirement for bulk Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, either one off or longer term supply, please contact us to discuss.

Lowlands is the wine brand of the Holdaway family-owned and operated company with over 35 years’ grape growing experience in the Dillons Point and Lower Wairau areas of Marlborough, New Zealand. We have blended carefully selected parcels of sauvignon blanc grapes to create our own unique wine.

We have an alternate label ‘Pretty Paddock’ for special small parcels of wine. Pretty Paddock Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2017 is a blended wine from grapes from our Alfa lea and Charles Eyles vineyards in Lower Wairau.
